2009 WORLD SLASHER CUP-2 OPENS
“WAR OF THE THUNDERBIRDS”
TODAY AT THE BIG DOME
World-class cockfighting action starts at 2:00 p.m. today at the Araneta Coliseum when the much-anticipated 2009 World Slasher Cup-2 8-Cock International
“It’s the battle of ganadors (multi-winners). The war of the thunderbirds”, stated Francis Martinez – Product Manager of Thunderbird – the undisputed leader in gamefowl health and nutrition.
Set for May 12, 14 and 16, the internationally-recognized event is hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions, organized by Araneta Center and sponsored by Thunderbird Bexan XP – the official B-complex injectable of the World Slasher Cup.
“The best cocks in the world are fought here,” Jorge Araneta, the host and driving force behind the prestigious event, once remarked. “We have elevated cockfighting to the level of importance that it deserves. Winning this event is like being champion of the world. It’s the world series of cockfighting.”
Leading the elite list of competitors are defending champions Thunderbird-powered MJRG group of Rolly Gabon, Martin Barla, Joe Carcillar and Robert Te, Spoiled Sa Amo of Rodel Costales and Benson Chua, and Cucamonga of Jorge Torres and Claude Bautista. The three reigning victors are determined to do a rare repeat, a feat which has been elusive in the almost 40-year history of the World Slasher Cup.
Composing the powerhouse cast of foreign entries are defending solo runner-up Wilbert LeBlanc and Richard Harris of Louisiana, Richard McCormick of Canada, Roger Roberts of Georgia, Chuck Berry of Oklahoma with his sinibalang fighters, Brad Padgette of Oregon, Damon Yorkman of Kentucky, Karl Casco of Hawaii, Thomas Mischkus of Germany, Brian Corkren of Alabama and Kiana Borovies of Hawaii, Mike Formosa of Hawaii, Jorge "Goy" Goitia of California, Arthur Rhodes of Tenessee and Ray Alexander of Alabama.
The locals are led by Nene Araneta with his Thunderbird entry backed by the now reinforced Thunderbird Winning Team composed of Sonny Lagon, Jezry Palmares, Otic Geroso, Joe Laureno, Boy Marzo, Edwin Arañez & Raffy Campos, Rey Briones, Boy Lechon, Dicky Lim, Cito Alberto, Honey Yu, Ompong Plaza, Baham Mitra, Pao Malvar, Dr. Boy Tuazon, Lawrence Wacnang, Manny Dalipe, Tol & Lino Mariano, Tan Brothers, Otec Geroso, Victor Sierra, Alvin Lim and Bernie Tacoy.
