Expected to lead the BBC campaign is newly-crowned 2009 Bakbakan champion Ireneo Andal who is only one of two entries that posted a top score of 9.5 points to split the title with Laguna’s Engr. Sonny Magtibay & Boy Andal.
The Ubusan 6-Stag Derby is a joint undertaking of the BBC, RGBA, Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n of Pangasinan (GBAP); Tarlac Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n (TAGBA); Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n of Tarlac (GBAT); Kapampangan Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n (KGBA); Bicol Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n (BIGBA); United Cavite Breeders Ass’n (UCBA) and the Greater Palawan Gamefowl Breeders, Inc. (GPGBI).
Highlight of today’s event is the main between BBC and RGBA wherein their top 30 members will be involved.
Championship is set on Thursday, December 17 wherein qualifiers from all the competing associations will lock horns for the top honors including a number of new entries who will be fighting six stags each.

Imagine posting photos of beautiful roosters or hens that they took from another man’s farm then describing the birds as though they were his own and that they are invincible, that they are good cutters, powerful, high-breakers and so on and so forth; that they have won multiple times already or that they belong to a popular strain of fightingcocks. In fact they are so good in their evil trade that a non-suspecting cocker will be convinced that he is passing a great opportunity if he will not buy the rooster being offered considering the unbelievably low price tag of say, P3,5000 to a picture cock that looks like P8,000 – P10,000.
I have been hearing about these things, but I was not aware of how bad these internet chicken peddlers are, until I talked recently to one of the victims. The young guy who is a singer and stage actor saves his hard-earned money to be able to buy good breeding stocks and his experience with an internet chicken peddler who calls himself “warhorse” is something that is truly condemnable.
In addition to the grave misrepresentation, “warhorse” who seemed to have perfected his game is so sinister that whenever one would contact him to express interest in his merchandise, he would say that he is sorry because he had decided not to sell the rooster anymore and that he will just use bird as a broodcock because he was really so good. That ploy will erase the low price tag of course because the subject rooster is not for sale anymore. However, after a day or two, he will call back the interested buyer and tell him that he is in a cockpit and that he is losing and because he needed money he will just let go of the subject rooster if the money (double the posted price) can be delivered to him right away.
Of course, an innocent buyer, thinking it was the chance of a lifetime will run to deliver the money, upon receiving the payment, “warhorse” will tell his victim to just proceed to his so-so farm and pick-up the rooster from his farmhand because he still has some fights left.
The buyer, thinking he had hit a jackpot, rushes to pick up his broodcock. Excited, he would briefly look at what he purchased then immediately heads home where he will open his computer and compare what he got to what was posted in the internet.
Convinced that he had been duped, he would call “warhorse”, but the peddler will insist that the buyer got the same chicken that was posted in the internet.
I remember now that years ago, a lady cocker already brought to my attention what “warhorse” was doing, but that time she and her group were just suspecting something sinister was going on.
Today, we can just imagine how many had been victimized by “warhorse” since that time, which was at the least five years ago.
With the very strong karma in sabong, I wonder what sort of tragedy will befall this so-called “warhorse” in the future.
CENTRAL & SOUTH LUZON 6-STAG UBUSAN DERBY SET AT ARANETA COLISEUM
The Rizal Gamefowl Breeders Association, Batangas Breeders Club, Kapampangan Gamefowl Breeders Association, United Cavite Breeders Association, Gamefowl Breeders Association of Pangasinan, Gamefowl Breeders Association of Tarlac, Tarlac Gamefowl Breeders Association and the Bicol Gamefowl Breeders Association have challenged each other to a face-off.
Dubbed as the firstt-ever Central & South Luzon 6-Stag Ubusan Derby, the derby’s last elimination event and championship is set at the Araneta Coliseum on December 15 & 17, respectively.
Prizes are P1,000,000 to the champion; P100,000 to the runner-up; P300,000 for any 5 points; P500,000 for any 4 points; P70,000 for the champion handler and P30,000 for the champion gaffer for a P2 million guaranteed cash prize. Entry fee is P6,600.

The stags to be fought by the Cagayan Valley Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n and the Viscaya Ifugao Gamefowl Breeders Ass’n has been in Cebu since three weeks ago. Even Basilan has an entry. Bernie Tacoy and his Ormoc Gold will represent Eastern Visayas, while, Sonny Lagon will be fighting for the Laguna Gamefowl Breeders Association.
Will the new champions Batangas Breeders Club and the Laguna Breeders make it two in a row?
The recently concluded 2009 Bakbakan National 10-Stag Derby turned out as it was expected to be, a record-breaker.
A total of 2,417 entries saw action which smashed last year’s 2,207 record. Out of this huge number, only 33 entries with perfect scores of 6 wins each and 20 with 5.5 points each was able to qualify for the grand finals. Out of the 33 6-pointers no one was able to win all four grand finals assignments for a perfect score of 10 points. Instead, only two entries split the title with top scores of 9.5 points.
For the first time, the two champions Red Cobra of Engr. Sonny Magtibay & Boy Tanyag and Igae Bagwis of Ireneo Andal both came from the Southern Tagalog Region. The first is a member of the Laguna Gamefowl Breeders Association, while the latter represented the Batangas Breeders Club.
With the enormous success of the 2-month epic derby, the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders is now poised to deliver their commitment of building school buildings or school rooms.

NFGB MUST CEASE THE MOMENT
Now that the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders is enjoying the respect and admiration of the sabong community, this umbrella organization of 29 rooster-raisers’ groups all over he country now has the informal authority to make its suggestions or exercise its influence for the revision of laws and government policies on cockfighting and gamefowl breeding.
For one, the NFGB should look into the possibility urging the government to put NATIONAL COCKFIGHTING AGENCY that will work for the standardization of cockfighting (hackfights, fastest win contest and derbies) rules and regulations, so that the a cocker from Cagayan province can fight in Zamboanga without having to understand the local regulations.
The NFGB can actually come up with a comprehensive rule on cockfighting that will be based on their commitment of PATAS, MAGALING, MARANGAL.
The NATIONAL COCKFIGHTING AGENCY must also be a licensing office for key cockpit personnel such as the sentenciador (referees), kristo (bet-takers), mananari (gaffer) and handlers, as well as llamadors and pit managers.
A license will professionalize their craft and will give them credibility and acceptance. This will also help in ridding their ranks of misfits and undesirables.
Today, a sentenciador who commits a violation or intentionally favor a competitor by cheating the carreo or judging process is usually kicked out and suspended from working again in the cockpit where the irregularity was committed. The sad thing is he would just go to another cockpit in another town where he will offer his services and be able to continue his job.
With the license, a sentenciador, kristo, mananari et al will be like a professional driver who will not be allowed to drive if his license gets confiscated or if he had been issued a suspension.
The Games & Amusement Board’s authority over cockfighting is only in the monitoring of international derbies. With the surplus personnel that GAB inherited from the former Philippine Gamefowl Commission, an expansion of their function will not be much of an additional expense for the government.

After the resounding success of the 2009 Bakbakan 10-Stag Derby, the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders sets its eyes on its next project – the 2009 Annual NFGB Presidents Cup 8-Stag Derby.
Presented by the NFGB and Thunderbird Ganador Max, this year’s event set at the newly-renovated Talisay Cockpit in Talisay, Cebu will be held on Saturday, December 12.
The much-awaited stag competition is already being billed as the biggest cockfighting event in Cebu because it will highlight the leaders of the 29 breeders associations from all over the country affiliated with the NFGB, who will be fighting their own bred stags or a selection of birds from among their local association members.
“This is the first time that a derby of this magnitude will be staged in Cebu. We are inviting all the derby fans out there not to miss this one”, says Victor Sierra -President of the Central Visayas Breeders Association which is hosting this year’s competition.
With the 29 entries competing fielding 8 roosters each, a marathon of 161 quality matches will be lined up.
Best gamefowl breeder of the year is the equivalent of the 2009 Bakbakan 10-Stag National Derby title won by Certified- Thunderbird-user Engr. Sonny Magtiay & Boy Tanyag (Red Cobra) of the Laguna Gamefowl Breeders Association and Ireneo Andal (Igae Bagwis) of the Batangas Breeders Club.
With unmatched scores of 9 wins and 1 draw each, the Magtibay-Tanyag tandem and Andal split the champion’s prize of P15 million from the guaranteed cash prize of P30 million.
