2009 WORLD SLASHER CUP CHAMPS HONORED

The three proud champions of the recently concluded 2009 World Slasher Cup 8-Cock Invitational Derby were honored last Tuesday in a luncheon ceremony held at the Mandarin Suites, Gateway Mall, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.

Hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and sponsored by Thunderbird Bexan XP and Thunderbird Platinum, the latest edition of the bi-annual event was the biggest ever with a record-breaking 2007 entries.

Receiving the World Slasher Cup – recognized as the most prestigious symbol of cockfighting excellence are Jorge Torres with former Congressman Claude Baustista of Davao (Cucamonga); Rodel Costales & Benson Chua (Spoiled Sa Amo) and the Chicago-based group of Rolly Gabon, Martin Barla, Joe Carcillar & Robert Te (MJRG) with Mark Remigio.

Jorge “Nene’ Araneta – Araneta Center’s President & CEO and son of the late Don J. Amado Araneta who initiated the 1st Pintakasi of Champions 7-Cock Main in 1957 which evolved to become the World Slasher Cup, personally handed over the cup to the champions, assisted by COO Manny Atacador.

Also present during the ceremony were top officials of Univet Nutrition & Animal Healthcare Company (UNAHCO), makers of Thunderbird Power Feeds & Thunderbird Power Vet – longtime partner of Uniprom, Inc. in ensuring the continued success of what is billed as the “Olympics of cockfighting”.

“We’re please to know that two out of the three champions are proud users of Thunderbird’s winning formula”, says Brand Manager Albert Uy.

For the love of sabong : Rolando Luzong was a former managing editor of Totoy de la Cruz's Pinoy Sabungero Magasin; editor of Philippine Cockfights Newsmag of Atty. Clem Abundo; served as Roligon Mega Cockpit PR Manager for four years & General Manager for 6 years (1991-2001); publisher of Karambola Magazine; host of Karambola sa Ere radio program with Princess Naldo; was part of the group that conceptualized and launched sabong.net.ph - the most popular cockfighting website in the internet; conceptualized and started sabungero.com; conceptualized and edited Larga tabloid and a contributor in various cockfighting magazines. Lando was the first to invest in Emoy Gorgonia's Tukaan - the first sabong tv program and also in 2006 conceptualized and started the cockfights tele-magazine program Hataw Pinoy. He is currently a regular contributor to Manila Bulletin's Animal Scene Magazine with 45,000 circulation; a Consultant for Thunderbird Power Feeds & Thunderbird Power Vet; editor of the Thunderbird Gamefowl Journal and PR man for Araneta Coliseum's cockfighting events. He is actively involve in community service projects thru the civic group Tambay Kay Epoy Association which he founded (www.tambaykayepoy.multiply.com) for which he was awarded by the Beta Sigma Faternity. Last May 22, 2010, he returned to Roligon Mega Cockpit to help in the derby promotions and immediately staged the succesful 2010 Hatawan sa Tag-ulan 5-Cock Derby, but had to give up Roligon due to some diffrences with the management. Currently, he writes sabong colums for Bandera (tabloid of the Philippine Daily Inquirer) every Friday and Pilipino Mirror (tabloid of Business Mirror) every Sunday, Tuseday & Thursday. In December 2011 Lando Luzong conceptualized and founded the GAMEFOWL MAGAZINE with Bernie Tacoy and Ramil Tan as publishers. GAMEFOWL MAGAZINE is officially launched on May 14, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, QC during the 2012 World Slashers Cup-2. GAMEFOWL is now the most respected and is fast becoming the most populat magazine in Philippine cockfightng.
