2011 BGT CUP 6-STAG DERBY SERIES

Ang 2011 BGT CUP 6-stag derby series ay gaganapin mula Setyembre 17 hanggang Nobyembre 26 sa pitong sabungan sa Leyte at Samar handog ni Bernie G. Tacoy at ng BGT Promotions sa pagtataguyod ng Thunderbird Power Feeds at pakikipagtulungan ni Lando Luzong.

Nagsimula noong isang taon kung saan mahigit sa 200 breeder ang lumahok, amg 2001 BGT CUP naman ay inaasahan na magiging mas malaki at mas magaling lalo na sa nakatayang P1,000,000 para sa entry fee na P6,600. Ang minimum bet ay P3,300, samantalang ang maximum even bet ay P11,000.

Karagdagan premyo ay ang pagrarapol ng 10 BGT Game Farm pullets sa bawat araw ng derby. Ang Breeder of the Year ay tatanggap ng P30,000 cash bonus; P10,000-halaga ng Thunderbird products; BGT Ormoc gold Trio at kakasamang bibiyahe para sa darating 2013 Thunderbird Challenge.

Magkakahiwalay na 2-stag elims ang gaganapin na may Day Champion prize na P25,000 plus trophies from Thunderbird ay gaganapin sa Sept. 17 – Burauen Sports and Amusement Center - Burauen, Leyte; Sept. 24 - Pawikan Gallera - Cabucgayan, Biliran; Oct. 22-Napuro Cockpit - Sta. Margarita, Samar; Oct. 28-Maasin Cockpit Arena – Maasin, Leyte; November 4-Valencia Sports Center - Valencia, Ormoc City; Nov. 12-Catarman Capitol Cockpit - Catarman, Northern Samar; and on Nov. 19 -Tunga Gallera - Tunga, Leyte.

Mayroon din Bonus Event na gagawin sa Oktubre 1 sa Valencia Sports Complex, Ormoc City, kung saan walang entry fee na kailangan (no entry fee) at may garantisabong premyo na P120,000 and isang bagong motorsiklo na ipaparapol. Kinabusan, Oktubre 2 ay isang medical/dental/optical mission na gagawin sa  BGT Game Farm in Bgy. Valencia., bago ang grand finals sa Nob. 26.

Remains of Thunderbird Sabongnation star, multi-awarded gamefowl breeder Renato “Otic” Geroso who succumbed to a massive heart attack last Tuesday, June 28 at the age of 72, will buried today at the Roselawn Memorial Park in Bacolod City.

A native of Kabankalan City, Otic stands 6 feet and 2 inches and was a competitve basketball players in his younger days.

His career as a master gamefowl breeder took a turn for good when he was tapped as farm manager of the late Batchoy Alunan – originator of the Batchoy Lemons.
Geroso played a major role in the gamefowl industry of Bacolod City and Negros being an organizer or board member of various local associations, among which as President of GFBAN( Gamefowl Breeders Association of Negros). He also managed Negros Coliseum for several years.

A perennial derby champion, among Otic’s victories are the : 1989 International Derby in Bacolod City; ; 1993 10-Cock Roligon Invitational Derby; 1997 7-Stag GFBAN double champion 14 wins; 1998 Breeder of the Year GFBAN; 2001 Solo Champion Balbina Cup and 2005 Dauin Inaugural Chinese Derby; 2006 Breeder of the Year - Balbina.

Otic was best known for his Lemon Greys or Mambucal Greys, but he also produced winning strains of Johnny Jumper Kelso, Billy Rubble Hatch, Col. Givens Hatch, Lieper Hatch and Roundhead.

Tulad ng inaasahan, napamangha ng mga Thunderbird Sabongnation Stars ang mga sabungero ng Palawan nang ganapin sa Palawan Royal Cockpit Arena sa Aborlan, Palawan ang pinakahiintay nilang Thunderbird Palawan Challenge 4-Cock All-Star Derby noong nakaraang Hunyo 19.

“Ang gagaling ng mga manok. Ang titibay” ito ang sambit ng isa sa mahigit dalawang libong opisyonado na sumaksi sa kakaibang labanan na noon lamang nangyari sa matanawing isla na isa sa mga pangunahin destinasyon ng mga turista na bumibisita sa Pilipinas.

“Gusto mo man mangantiyaw kapag lamang na ang manok na kinampihan mo, pero hindi pwede kasi kahit dapa na, nakakaganti at nananalo pa.

Halos lahat ng sultada ay pinapalakpakan ng mga lubos na nasiyahan mga Palaweño habang manaka-naka ay isinisigaw ni Thunderbird Consultant Rolando Luzong (nagsilbing llamador) na “Kung gusto po ninyo na maging ganyan kalakas, kabilis at katibay ang manok ninyo, Thunderbird feeds po ang ibigay ninyo sa kanila.”

Sa 26 na lumahok na kapwa mga endorsers ng Thunderbird, may lima na naka-3 panalo at 1-tabla ang nakaabang at umaasang matalo sana ang huling laban ng RGBA Milk & Honey entry ng tambalang Joey Sy at Pros Antonio na nagtagumpay naman sa ika-apat nitong laban upang makuha ang solong kampeonato.

Umiskor ng tigatlong panalo at isang talo sina Nestor Vendivil (Oliver), Otec Geroso (Mambucal BGT), Winnie Codilla (Wonders of Ormoc Bulik), Pao Malvar (Sunhaven Paniqui) at Bong Gazmen (Go-Go-Go BIGBA Go).

Sa isang tawag sa telepono, limang araw matapos ang nasabing derby, inireport ng Grop of Palawan Gamefowl Breeders, Inc. Vice President Jun Ortega ang ganito “Sa ngayon ay naging barometro na ang Thunderbird Palawan Challenge sa pagkilatis sa mga manok dito sa Palawan. Kapag hindi maganda at hindi maayos lumaban, ang biruan ang ‘pwede na ‘yang panuka sa Thunderbird Palawan Challenge. Kapag nanalo naman at maganda ang inilaro, sinasabi na ‘pwede na ‘yan sa Palawan Challenge’.

The 2011 World Slashers Cup-2 held from June 6-12 at the Big Dome, closed with three entries sharing the title as the new world champions after finishing with identical scores of 7 wins and 1 loss each.

Closing with 7 points apiece to rule the field of 174 entries are Rey Briones (Spartans DR-1), Boy Jiao & Ito Ynares (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) and Rikki Reyes (@PR Knights Rian WRN)

Tabloid executive Rey Briones, one of Thunderbird Wiining Team member, brings the province of Masbate to the fore of Philippine cockfighting again after bagging his second World Slashers Cup title which he first won in 2003. It should be noted that 2010 Bakbakan champs Doc Ronnie Magbalon and Engr. Ralph Daigo who scored a total of 19 wins and 1 draw with their ‘buliks’ last December are both Masbateños. Briones’ victory is also a seal of success for his gamefowl breeding venture, because this time, he fought his own produce from his Spartans Game Farm in Bulacan where he propagates his Spartan Red and Spartan White aces.

Probably the most unexpected of the three champions is that of Boy Jiao (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) – also a Thundebird Sabongnation star, considering that he had only three points after the elims and semis. Jiao who is in Macau for a vacation texted that he used Kelso-Roundheads and Kelso-Grey. This is Jiao’s third WSC title.

Young fighter Rikki Reyes, who used to be known as the son-in-law of top cocker Boy “Bulalayaw” Marzo, now makes a name for himself as one of the league’s most feared cocker-breeder after pocketing his first world title via his (@PR Knights Rian WRN) entry, financed by Ortee Reyes and Val Samson, Rikki fielded his own breeding of RDR Greys and RDR Blueface Hatches.

The WRN team of Wilson Ong, Rikki Reyes and new Thunderbird endorser Nestor Vendivil had the biggest share of the limelight with Reyes winning the championship, 6.5, Ong’s Octagon Rian WRN-1 scored 6.5 points for runner-up honors, while Vendivil (Oliver WRN-10 and Rikki Reyes other entry (@Rian KSA TNT WRN closed with 6 points each.

Sharing the runner-up spot with Ong are Buddy Robregado (Big R) and the tandem of Bebot Roxas & Peping Cojuangco (Paniqui-CAT).

Also coming out with sterling performances with 6 pints apiece are Allan Siaco (A.S.
