MANILA, Philippines -- Members of the animal welfare group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will picket the Manila Zoo on Thursday to protest congestion in the zoo and alleged “psychological sufferings” of the captive wildlife there.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A giant lobster named George escaped a dinner-table fate and was released Saturday into the Atlantic Ocean after a New York seafood restaurant granted him his freedom, according to a statement from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
George the lobster was a "sort of mascot" for City Crab and Seafood in New York.
The lobster, which PETA said was 140 years old and weighed 20 pounds, had been confined to a tank at City Crab and Seafood restaurant in Manhattan when two customers alerted the animal group.
The PETA statement did not say how the extraordinary age estimate was determined, but restaurant manager Keith Valenti told CNN that lobsters can grow a pound every seven to 10 years, and he put George's weight at 18 to 20 pounds.

Three animal rights activists were mobbed by media and bystanders as they stood in the middle of Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila, Friday noon when they urged Filipinos to become vegetarians while wearing only lettuce leaves.

The three girls were models Ashley Fruno of Canada, Istara Bon Gundry of the US, and Katrina Lugartos of the Philippines and they are from the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The activists, protesting ahead of the global celebration of Earth Day next week, said in their statement that “meat production has a devastating impact on the environment”.

In a bold campaign to help unhealthy animals at the Manila Zoo, four sexy animal rights group staffers willingly bared their skin on Tuesday to spread awareness about the ills of keeping animals in captivity.

Clad only in skimpy black bikinis and large, heart-shaped signs saying "Have a Heart, Boycott the Zoo", People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) volunteers Katrina Lugarkos, Leonika Recites, and Ashley Fruno stood in front of the zoo in the glaring noontime heat, giving out leaflets to passersby.

Just want to share with you that PETA is all over condemning our beloved sabong sport.
My daughter, a junior medical student at UP Manila- PGH told me that the PETA group held a forum at their university.

As expected, my daughter stood out and proudly told everybody that her father breeds fightingcocks, then related the TLC I give to the chickens, and refuted the PETA that sabungeros are not brutal to chickens and are far different from what they perceived us to be. That it is but the animal instinct of chickens to fend for themselves when pitted during spar, just like all other animals.

I hope the kids of all our kasabongs are smart enough to stand out and defend our sport when PETA visits their campuses.
